According to Soccer Laduma, the experienced left back was Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba's first choice replacement for Patrick Phungwayo.

Phungwayo was forced to withdraw from the national squad on Saturday after suffering a knee injury. (Read that story HERE!)

The South African soccer website are now reporting that a heel injury forced Masilela to turned down the opportunity to represent Bafana Bafana in Equatorial Guinea.

Masisela's heel injury is expected to keep the in-form Chiefs' player out for at least two weeks.

In a surprise move, Mashaba then opted to call up Orlando Pirates centre-back Ayanda Gcaba as Phungwayo's replacement.

Kaizer Chiefs will be hopeful that Masilela makes a quick recovery in order to help steer Amakhosi to the PSL title when the PSL resumes in February.
