Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic have spoken out against the violence that occurred during Sunday’s Premiership match against Polokwane City.
Three supporters were stabbed when an altercation broke out in the stands during the second half of the league match at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium.
Celtic have confirmed that the fans have been released from hospital and the club “attended to their medical needs”.
“A case has been opened against the perpetrator who is under the watchful eye of the police,” a statement posted on the club’s website said.
“Celtic apologises to fans that witnessed the attack and will take every possible action to ensure the safety of its supporters.”
Phunya Sele Sele MD Rali Ramabodu added: “We are disturbed by this barbaric act which was also seen by youngster in the stands.
“We have worked hard to create family environment at our games, any type of violence my deter fans from attending games and can lessen kids’ interest in attending games.
“We encourage our supporters to report any unruly behaviour and appeal to them to continue coming to our games.”
