Celtic boss: Season a success

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic CEO Khumbulani Konco has labelled his club's season as a success after matching their best-ever PSL finish.

Phunya Sele Sele finished fifth on the overall log and also bagged silverware by winning the Telkom Knockout final against Mamelodi Sundowns back in December.

They also reached the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup, losing a tight game 1-0 to eventual champions Kaizer Chiefs.

Celtic were also rewarded at the annual PSL Awards with Joel Mogorosi winning the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament award and coach Clinton Larsen being nominated for the prestigious Coach of the Season Award, which eventually went to Stuart Baxter of Kaizer Chiefs.

"We have really enjoyed a solid season and we as senior management are happy with the steady progress of the team,” Konco told Celtic's official website.

“For Clinton Larsen to once again be nominated for coach of the season, amid fierce challenges is testament to the fact that we are going forward as a club.

“I am also happy at the form of our younger crop of players coming through well, with the likes of Lyle Lakay, Limbikani Mzava and Ruzaigh Gamildien amongst a host of others doing really well,” he added.

Konco also praised captain Thabo Nthethe who has been called up to the Bafana Bafana squad.

"Thabo Nthethe has been a rock in our team for many seasons, he is just so consistent and is a calming presence on the team. He is amongst a handful of senior players that have performed very well. There are exciting times ahead for the club."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
