Celtic back to winning ways

Bloemfontein - A 74th minute Joel Mogorosi strike helped return Bloemfontein Celtic back to winning ways at the Free State Stadium when they secured a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows in their Absa Premiership match on Sunday afternoon.

Three points is all that separated the two teams coming into the fixture and Bloemfontein Celtic knew that they were in need of returning to winning ways at home, following two successive games without a win.

There were concerns about the state of the patchy field and it undoubtedly had an effect on the tempo of the game as the opening 20 minutes saw little action and many misplaced passes.

Celtic tried to open up the visitor’s defence through Joel Mogorosi, who pounced on a ball, but play was brought to an end when he was flagged for offside early on.

Thirty-minutes in and the hosts then threatened off a corner kick when Ruzaigh Gamildien filtered his set-piece into the box which forced Cedric Gumede to rush off his line and make the save.

It was all Celtic in the closing stages of the first half and they saw the perfect opportunity go begging when Rodrick Mutuma failed to connect on a great cross by Limbikani Mzava, as he sent his effort wide of goal after having just the ‘keeper to beat.

An opportunity was followed-up just minutes later and Celtic were once again denied of a goal when Gumede got in the way of Joel Mogorosi’s strike, on the edge of the area, to send the game 0-0 into the break.

Arrows took to the second half with some great flare and they threatened with a great strike at goal by Bongi Ntuli, forcing Patrick Tignyemb to push it out at the near post.

In the 62nd minute Lennox Bacela was added into the fray for the hosts, in hope of adding the clinical finishing needed to win the game.

The deadlock was finally broken, after 74 minutes of action, when Bacela lay on a pass for Mogorosi. The Botswana international burst into the box and struck the ball over the onrushing ‘keeper to rattle the back of the net, making it 1-0.

Like much the game, the limited goalmouth action followed suit for the remainder of the match as Celtic managed to secure the 1-0 win, keeping their undefeated record against Arrows intact.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
