Celtic aim to down Pitso's men

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic are targeting Mamelodi Sundowns in their quest to get their PSL season back on track when the two sides meet on Sunday.

PSL: Our pick of the pile

The side from the Free State have won just one match so far this season which came away from home and are looking to add a second victory to their season when they host Pitso Mosimane's men from Pretoria.

Celtic were held to a third draw of the season when they played to out a goalless draw against Platinum Stars in Rustenburg.

Celtic's next three league opponents are SuperSport United (away), Polokwane City (home) and University of Pretoria (away).

Phunya Sele Sele are currently placed 10th on the PSL log with six points from five matches but now face the task of trying to beat Sundowns on Sunday, September 14.

Last season, the Brazilians completed a league “double” over Phunya Sele Sele, winning 3-1 away and 1-0 at home and it will take a concerted effort if Sundowns are to be sent home with no points to show for their travel to the Free State.

The current PSL champions are placed eighth on the log with seven points from five matches and will be looking for a vital away win as they look to chase down log-leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns picked up only their second win of the season when they beat AmaZulu 2-0 in their last outing while Mosimane’s side has claimed three points from a possible six in away matches this season.

Mosimane will be looking for a win against Celtic before trying to pick up their momentum in their next three league fixtures. Sundowns next face Polokwane City (away), Bidvest Wits (home) and Chippa United (away).

In head-to-head stats, Celtic and Sundowns have met in 52 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have 26 wins compared to 11 for Phunya Sele Sele, while 15 matches have been drawn.

Celtic won seven of their 26 home matches against Sundowns, suffering 11 defeats in the process.

Celtic host the reigning PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Free State Stadium on Sunday, 14 September with the encounter scheduled to kick-off at 15:00.
