CAF Champions League hots up

Cape Town - Al Hilal and USMA Alger will look to consolidate their strong positions atop Group A and B respectively when the CAF Champions League resumes this weekend with matchday three fixtures.

Al Hilal currently enjoy a narrow one-point lead over Egyptian rookies Smouha and will look to remain in pole position for the semifinals when they tackle bottom-of-the-log Moghreb Tetouan in Morocco on Sunday night.

Smouha and TP Mazembe – separated by just a point on the mini log – will battle for the first time in the Champions League when they meet in Alexandria on Friday night. The DR Congo giants will be desperate to avoid another goalless outing, having played to two stalemates in their previous group matches.

In Group B, Algeria’s USMA hold a three-point lead and will be confident of at least maintaining that gap when they host bottom-of-the-log MC El Eulma for a derby match in Algiers on Friday night.

Current Champions League title holders ES Setif will look to leapfrog Sudan’s El Merreikh into second place when the teams meet in Setif on Saturday night.

The reverse fixtures for matchday four will be held on the weekend of 7-9 August.
