Bucs: No Phungwayo exit doubts

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates are seemingly confident of extending Patrick Phungwayo's contract, claiming there is 'no doubt' he will commit his future to the Soweto giants.

The Bafana Bafana international's deal with the Buccaneers expires next month and talks over fresh terms are believed to have stalled.

Reports suggest that the defender could be on his way out of the Orlando Stadium, with even a move to bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs thought to be an option.

However, Pirates administrative officer Floyd Mbele appears supremely confident an agreement can be reached, telling Soccer Laduma: "Phungwayo is a Pirates player.

"There has never been any doubt over the player's role and positioning at the club. Patrick is a Pirates player."

Any signing of a potential extension would, however, likely only take place next week.

Phungwayo is currently with the South Africa squad ahead of Saturday's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
