Brazilians ready for the Cape

Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane is confident Mamelodi Sundowns will be better prepared for the Cape Town Challenge following their disappointment in the Gauteng Cup last weekend.

The Cape Town Challenge will feature an upbeat Ajax Cape Town, Moroka Swallows, Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, with Ajax and Wits opening proceedings on Friday at 18:00, and Swallows getting a second bite at the Sundowns cherry in the final game of the evening at 20:00.

The tournament will be played at Athlone Stadium on Friday, with the final two games played on Sunday.

The organisers have introduced a new points system, with points awarded for each goal scored. This will ensure that the teams play attacking football, something that the fans will delight in.

Sundowns have had a gruelling pre-season.

Playing games in Polokwane and Zimbabwe before returning for the Gauteng Cup where they beat Moroka Swallows 5-0 before losing on penalties to SuperSport United in the final.

This week the team was hard at work at training, but one player who stood on the sidelines was Khama Billiat, who is still injured.

The nifty midfielder was injured in Sundowns' league encounter against Orlando Pirates last season. He is still on crutches, but hopes to get back to fitness soon, the club said on its website.

The tournament will also give Sundowns’ Western Cape fans a chance to see as many players as possible in action.
