Cape Town - Moroka Swallows have announced the signing of former Free State Stars midfielder Mthokozisi Yende following a successful trial spell with the club.

The 30-year-old had been training with the Johannesburg-based club for quite some time and appeared to have missed out on a deal back in November when Swallows pulled out of contract negotiations.

However, it seems the two parties have been able to reach an amicable agreement, ending Yende's exile in the football wilderness.

Yende, who counts Tembisa Classic, University of Pretoria, Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United amongst his former clubs, will provide some welcome comeptition for places in the Dube Birds midfield.

A statement on the club's official website read: "The midfielder, who can also play a wider role or as a second striker, spent some time on trial at the club recently and impressed head coach Fani Madida and his technical staff.

“We would like to welcome him to the Birds' Nest."
