Birds to fly out of drop zone

Cape Town - Bloemfontein Celtic will look to break their losing streak in the Absa Premiership when they host Moroka Swallows at Free State Stadium.

Celtic suffered a third successive 1-0 loss when they were beaten at home by Bidvest Wits in their last outing.

The Bloemfontein side has claimed eight points from six home matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Black Aces, Orlando Pirates (both away) and Kaizer Chiefs (home).

Phunya Sele Sele are placed 10th on the PSL log with 16 points from 14 matches.

Swallows suffered a sixth home defeat of the season when they were beaten 1-0 by Platinum Stars in their last outing.

The Soweto side has claimed seven points from five away matches this season.

Their next three league opponents are Orlando Pirates (home), AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns (both away).

The Birds are placed 14th on the Premiership log with 14 points from as many matches.

In head-to-head stats, Celtic and Swallows have met in 53 league matches since 1985.

The Birds have 18 wins compared to 16 for Phunya Sele Sele, while 19 matches have been drawn.

Celtic have won 12 of their 27 home matches against Swallows, suffering six defeats in the process.

Last season the teams played to a 2-2 draw in Bloemfontein and a 1-1 draw in Soweto.

Kick-off is at 15:30 on Sunday, December 14.
