Benni training with Ajax

2011-07-21 14:07

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town’s media and communications manager, Mark Meyer, has confirmed that Benni McCarthy has started training with the club this morning.

“Yes, he is here he has started training with the club at 10:00 on Thursday morning. You are welcome to come down and see him yourself if you want to,” said Meyer.

McCarthy was at Nyanga Stadium on Wednesday night to watch Ajax play against Chippa United in one of the club’s pre-season friendly games.

Although the former Bafana Bafana striker is only training with the team to regain his full fitness, the possibility of negotiating a deal with the Urban Warriors for the new campaign is on the cards.

      Green Oaks - 2011-07-21 15:33

      AjAxxxx - 2011-07-22 08:16

  • Ephraim Bogopa - 2011-07-21 15:23

Benni McCarthy is a quality striker, look where is FC Porto today. If he can join Ajax he will regain his form, and our local center back players can't stop Benny McCarthy. Just watch ..... Good luck Mfana se khaya!

  • Annoy - 2011-07-21 15:26

  • Bra Pat - 2011-07-21 17:00

lets face the fact, this is an embarrassing move. Though Bennie holds a gud record but the end is k#$%k.

      Dmitri - 2011-07-21 17:18

All players reach the end of their careers sooner or later. If this is his swansong then for the team as well as for his sake, I hope it is a good one, Let him stick to playing football and leave all the rhetoric to his agent.

  • Barry Edwards - 2011-07-21 17:47

If I am not mistaken, the likes of Gary Bailey came home and played local football before retiring. Welcome home Benni !!

      Setshutshu - 2011-07-21 18:30

You're 150% correct Barry, a lot more others too. People might be snubbing Benny, but deep down we all know that when things don't go right in life, you always return home to regroup, so why can't Benny do the same.

      Barry Edwards - 2011-07-21 20:24

Setshutshu, Is it not great that our champions come home. I am sure Benni will not let us down.

  • manuel28 - 2011-07-21 18:25

benni is a legend, what more can you say, unless you prefer mphela, world class? eerrrm, the only person that can fill bennis shoes in south african football is.......... ja no one, not even pienaar, not even lucas radebe, shoes, dr khumalo, quinten fortune or any names you care to mention!

      Tunkisi - 2011-07-24 01:36

Finally,,,somebody who understands and knows his football......Bafana team has no striker,,,period!

  • Ramudzuli Richard - 2011-07-22 02:12

He is counted among the greatest in Africa, he has no match here is ZA, let him sign for amakhosi and you will see him breaking Mbesuma scoring record. We need him for bafana as well. "benni in the 18 area"

      Tunkisi - 2011-07-24 01:37

      Nice one!!!

  • Singata - 2011-07-22 09:16

I know most of us as South African soccer supporters we still angry with him, but I am pleading to everyone lets start a new life lets forgive. He is one of the best strikers South Africa ever produced in his era, he won Portuguese League, Champion's League, and more other cups not sitting on the bench. He can still deliver for Ajax and I wish him a good lucky.

No matter what anyone says he is the best striker SA has ever had, even a old worn out Benny is better than what the rubbish PSL strikers have to offer..

      Tunkisi - 2011-07-24 01:39

The last game against Egypt was proof enough!!!!

  • Stuart - 2011-07-25 14:52
