Benni back in the 18th area?

Cape Town – Benni McCarthy may have retired in 2013, but could the former Orlando Pirates striker be on his way back to the 18th area?

After retiring, Bafana Bafana's top goal scorer went to Bloemfontein to complete coaching courses and then later to England to get his UEFA B licence in coaching.

In May, the 36-year-old got married to Scottish model, Stacey Munro, in the UK.

McCarthy hosts a reality TV show called, “Goal Diggerz” which gives viewers an exclusive insight into the off-field lifestyles of some of the most successful African footballers.

According to the Edinburgh News, Whitehill Welfare, a Scottish Lowland Football League club, is hoping to secure the services of McCarthy after the former Blackburn Rovers striker played - and scored - in Whitehill’s 5-3 defeat to Hamilton Accies on July 13.

Hailing from Hanover Park in Cape Town, the father of four also played for West Ham United.

He scored over 150 goals in almost 400 professional appearances in his 14-year career.

Do you think Benni McCarthy still has what it takes to continue playing soccer?
