The former FC Porto, Blackburn and West Ham striker joined the Buccaneers at the beginning of the season and has already secured a place in the heart of the club's supporters after notching up several goals for the Soweto juggernauts.
"Life at Pirates has been great, I'm enjoying my football again and I love spending time with my team-mates," he told the club's official website.
"It's a privilege to be part of a legendary club such as Pirates. I love SA because it's the country where I'm born and where my people are from.
"The PSL in terms of quality has improved immensely because players are so much better, stronger and way more skilful than people give them credit for. Therefore our league has improved very much and is full of quality."
The former Bafana Bafana international is set to take to the field along with his Pirates team-mates for the Telkom Knockout semi-final against Golden Arrows on Saturday and he insists his targets are to finish the campaign as both the club's and the PSL's top scorer.
McCarthy added: "We have every chance of retaining our league title and we hope to add more silverware to our addition.
"Personal goals that I set for myself is definitely to become my teams top goal scorer and hopefully the PSL's as well."
The 34-year-old may only have been at the Orlando Stadium a few months, but says he feels like he has been part of Bucs' set-up for ages.
"I am always a very passionate player whichever team I play for, but joining Pirates was a memorable moment for me. That is why I fit in to the Pirates scheme like I have been around for donkey years," he added.
