The former Bafana Bafana coach was confirmed as Vladimir Vermezovic's full-time replacement earlier this week, and he will get his first look at the squad on Tuesday when they host the Urban Warriors in Polokwane.
However, the 58-year-old will have no say in any team business on the night, with Donald Khuse and Doctor Khumalo set to continue their roles as caretaker coaches until the final game of the season.
Baxter had met with the players for the first time on Tuesday, with the new tactician already making moves to inspire the team to their former glory.
According to the club's official website, Baxter told the squad: "It is my intention to bring the best in you and make you the best you can be. I want us to work together in bringing back trophies to this club.
"I am honoured to be here and looking forward to working with you."
Chiefs begin their final sprint to the finish line against Ajax on Tuesday, before traveling to Free State Stars on Saturday and ending the campaign at home against AmaZulu.
