Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has called on his high-flying team to maintain their composure as they look to build on their impressive start to the 2014/15 season.

Amakhosi secured a 2-0 victory over Platinum Stars in Phokeng on Wednesday night to remain unbeaten after four fixtures in the Premiership campaign, retaining their two-point lead over second-placed Ajax Cape Town.

"It is a challenge. We must now take this performance to the next game," Baxter told the Chiefs website.

"We have to work hard to maintain the momentum."

"(Bernard) Parker and Shabba (Siphiwe Tshabalala) are coming back to add more competition in the team, which is good for us."

The Soweto giants bagged their third win over Stars in 11 days, after romping to a 5-0 victory on aggregate in their two-leg MTN8 semifinal.

They took the lead in the 20th minute in their midweek league clash, with Reneilwe Letsholonyane controlling the ball well on the edge of the area and firing into the top right corner.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, George Lebese netted their second strike, slicing the ball in from a tight angle.

"It was a tricky game to play again against the same team in such a short space of time," Baxter said.

"We started well and after we scored through 'Yeye', we knew they would throw caution to the wind and try to come at us."

Stars put up a strong fight in the second half, creating multiple opportunities, but the hosts were unable to break through the solid Amakhosi defence.

"It is difficult to score against us at this stage," Baxter said.

"We have a back four that minimises the danger so well.

"What we just need to do is convert our own chances and carry on with our performance."

The former Bafana Bafana mentor admitted they did not expect to continue sailing through the lengthy campaign, and he told his players they would need to stay grounded.

Chiefs face SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:15.

"We have now gone seven games (league and cup matches) with only one goal conceded," Baxter said.

"We want to continue in the same way. It will be a good ratio."

"We are aware there are tough games on the road ahead and we have to keep our feet on the ground."

Stars settled in seventh place in the standings, in the early stages of the league campaign, with six points from their first four matches.

They meet Bloemfontein Celtic in Phokeng on Sunday. Kick-off is at 15:00.
