Baxter targets 'Downs win

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has vowed the club will not take their foot off the gas when they meet Mamelodi Sundowns, despite already being crowned Premiership champions.

Chiefs were confirmed as the winners of the league this season with their 4-1 win over Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium last week.

Sundowns still have a lot to play for despite no longer being able to catch Amakhosi, because a second-place finish will grant them access to next season's CAF Champions League.

There is also the matter of pride and bragging rights and the Brazilians will relish the opportunity to get one over on Chiefs.

Baxter is also well aware of the situation that saw Amakhosi crumble at the end of the season to hand the trophy to Downs, and wants his side to finish this season strong to set the record straight.

"I will be lying if I said it doesn't feel like there are some sorts of personal revenge, not revenge on Sundowns but on ourselves," Baxter told KickOff.

"We felt we gave it away last year. Sundowns did a terrific job to keep pressure on us, but we felt we gave it away in the finish.

"Now to go there and know that we have already won it, it's great. But it will be very disappointing if we go there and we don't win.”
