Cape Town - Stuart Baxter reveals he played a key role in the appointment Steve Komphela as his replacement in the role of head coach at Kaizer Chiefs.
At the end of the 2014/15 season, Baxter left Amakhosi to join Turkish club Genclerbirligi after leading Chiefs to a Premiership and MTN8 Cup double.
There were several candidates in line to take up one of the biggest jobs in South African football, but the Scottish manager backed Komphela as the man to continue from where he left off.
"We didn't have long debates about it, but in the one meeting we had I certainly threw my weight behind Steve's appointment," Baxter told Soccer Laduma.
"When they were talking about casting their nets wide, I didn't see the point because I thought Steve was a good, sensible appointment. But it'll take time and people need to have patience.
"I spoke to Steve not long after I left. I was in London and he gave me a call and I think we spoke twice.
"We don't have weekly contact or anything, but he knows that he can call me whenever he likes. Steve is his own man and he'll get on with things."
