Baxter: We won't relax

Johannesburg -  Following the weekend’s round of Absa Premiership results, Kaizer Chiefs are set to secure their first league crown since 2005.

According to the Soccer-Laduma website, Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates both lost their fixtures on the weekend, against Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively, which has all but guaranteed Chiefs the league.

This Wednesday the Amakhosi face SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium for their penultimate league game of the season and although the PSL seems to be wrapped up, coach Stuart Baxter says that they will be focused for their final two games.

Baxter, who is facing a suspension after his sending off in the Nedbank Cup, said that although the fans believe that they have already won the league, the team will not ease off just yet.

"The players won't relax. They will take the remaining two league games just as serious as they have been in all the other games this season. They know that we have to win every game we play in and no matter what people think, it is not over yet, and we will play like that until the last game.

"There are still three games in the season for them to play in and they can't be complacent. They have to fight for their places and for wins in all the three games,” said the coach."

After playing against United on Wednesday, Chiefs will face University of Pretoria on May 18, on the final day of the season, before taking on SuperSport in the Nedbank Cup final.

A single point out of a possible six, in their final two league games, will secure Baxter and his charges the league, although their superior goal difference is likely to hand them the title irrelevant of any possible outcome in the remaining games.
