Baxter: Mphela working hard

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says Katlego Mphela is not far from breaking into his starting line-up, if he continues to work hard.

The striker has struggled to live up to his reputation ever since making the switch from Mamelodi Sundowns a season-and-a-half ago. His stay at Naturena has been hindered by injures and most recently illness.

"The situation with Katlego is that he is training and working hard," Baxter told Football411.

"The problem we are currently facing with him is that there are not enough games where we can play him so he can get himself into a match-fitness level.

"He was close to returning not so long ago and looked really good, but he got ill again and missed training.

"But he's back, training hard again and we will just continue to monitor his situation.

"But he just needs to do more work probably to get himself fit and injury free.

"And we will take it from there, the only problem with him is once he's closer to his return, he'll get injured again, hopefully it's not the case this time."

The 30-year-old came from the bench and scored Amakhosi 3rd goal as they trashed Edu Sports 4-0 in the Nedbank Cup Last-32 at the weekend.
