Speaking to Usuthu’s official website, Barker admits that there is a sense of optimism amongst players during training sessions.
“I am sensing a good attitude from the players and it seems like they are all hungry for an opportunity to play,” said Barker.
“It is good to know that everyone is putting their hand up especially at training and that might see us giving some players an opportunity that they have never had before.”
Barker confessed that he will not rest until he gets the best out of all his players as they try to dig themselves out of the relegation zone.
“We have been doing a lot of hard work without the ball and also ensuring that we work on how we have been conceding goals before,” said Barker.
“There is no doubt that the derby is going to be difficult. Maritzburg are a good side and I am sure they are expecting to get full points especially since playing at home. The players are all looking good and healthy and there is a great competition in the camp which is something positive.
“What is more encouraging is that the players themselves know how important a win is at this stage. That creates a good team work.”
