Barker proud of his Aces

Cape Town - Mpumalanga Black Aces coach Clive Barker was complimentary of his squad, after they executed an epic upset against Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.

Aces got proceedings underway with an opening goal from Collins Mbesuma in the 12th minute of the match and the home team sustained that lead up to the half-time intermission. Pirates did launch a comeback of sorts 14 minutes into the second stanza and for that fleeting moment, it looked like their experience would come to the fore.

However, Aces, who have been on a dream run in the Premiership, were having none of it on the evening in question and a 78th-minute penalty from Mabhuti Khenyeza sealed Pirates’ fate.

Barker, who took over at the helm in 2013, is starting to produce positive results at the club and naturally he is proud of the manner in which his players have conducted themselves throughout this campaign.

"It was a thrill a minute, a great game. Credit to both teams and to the officials who let it flow," said Barker after the victory against Pirates.

"I think we had a lot of great chances, but they did too, and I just think for the people who turned up here tonight, what a good advert for our football.

"I'm so proud of my team for the quality of football they're delivering. I think it's fantastic," added Barker.
