Arrows seek double over SuperSport

Cape Town - Golden Arrows will be hoping to pin down SuperSport United for the second time in one week when the sides meet in a Telkom Knockout clash.

United and Arrows will battle for a place in the semi-finals when they meet at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

SuperSport, the Telkom Knockout’s defending champions, booked their place in the quarterfinals thanks to a 2-1 away win over Polokwane City in the previous round. Thuso Phala and Dove Wome scored the Tshwane’s side goals.

Arrows, meanwhile, edged MTN8 champions Ajax Cape Town 1-0 to advance into the last eight. The KwaZulu-Natal side’s lone goal was scored by Gladwin Shitolo.

Matsatsantsa and Abafana Bes’thende have met in four previous cup clashes, the most recent of which was earlier this year in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup: United won 1-0 at home thanks to a goal from Bradley Grobler.

It was SuperSport’s third cup win over Arrows, who have gotten the better of their opponents just once: the 2011 Telkom Knockout when they won 1-0 away thanks to a goal from Collins Mbesuma.

Overall the teams have met in 33 league and cup matches since 2000/01, including a league clash just prior to this TKO fixture in which the Durban side won 2-1 in Pretoria. The result means United have 18 wins compared to 10 for Arrows, while five matches have been drawn.

That win was Arrows’ third in the league for the season and they have picked up four points in two matches since the international break. United, in contrast, have lost four successive games in the league and will hope the TKO offers them some reprieve this weekend.

Kick-off is at 20:15 on October 24.
