Chatsworth - Lamontville Golden Arrows bagged yet another haul of three points when they beat Free State Stars 2-0 at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Both goals came in the second half.
Arrows started like a house on fire in their last outing against Maritzburg United and ended as deserved 3-0 winners. But this time the home side abandoned their usual free-flowing style and opted for a more circumspect approach in the first half.
It was Stars who were more adventurous and easily enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the first half. Most often, striker Kingston Nkhatha was relied on to add the finishing touches to Stars' attacking initiatives.
From one such raid in the fifteenth minute, Nkhatha headed wide from close range, Siyabonga Mdluli supplied the accurate cross.
Apart from that scare, the visitors were unable to string together any further threatening moves for the remainder of the half.
They had to wait until the 65th minute to mount their next telling raid and on that occasion it was the agility of Arrows goalkeeper, Helton Da Rocha that prevented them from taking the lead. Both Nkhata and Motha Madoda had close range efforts blocked by the keeper.
Arrows took the lead a short while later when Mzivukile Tom powered home a header from the edge of Stars' penalty area.
The visitors were reduced to ten men in the 76th minute when Rudiger Gilbert received his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Stars fell further behind in the 84th minute when Vusimuzi Vilakai placed a volley beyond the reach of Kennedy Mweene in Stars goals.
Just before the end, Stars central midfielder Paulus Masehe received a straight red card for a dangerous tackle.
