Cape Town - Two wasted opportunities by Bongani Ndulula towards the end of the second half gave Maritzburg United a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

As a result, Usuth finished bottom of the Absa Premiership and were relegated to the National First Division.

As early as the eight minute of the match Deolin Mekoa gave Maritzburg United an early lead with a powerful ground shot which saw his team leading by 1-0.

Three minutes later Bongi Ntuli did try to find a goal for AmaZulu, but Shuaib Walters was quick to react to his right and make a stop on the striker’s shot.

In the 31st minute Usuthu had an opportunity to equalise but Ouro-Akoriko wasted Van Heerden’s set piece as he headed wide. This saw Maritzburg going to the half time leading by 1-0.

Just after the half time Ntuli’s shot missed the target an inch away from the far post. In the 73rd minute Nyongo found an equalizer for Usuthu with a header from Van Heerden’s set piece. Four minutes later Van Heerden delivered another set piece but this time it went over the cross bar.

In the 79th minute Ndulula failed to chip the ball inside the net unmarked and that could have given Usuthu a lead.

Mabizela pulled a shot but Walters managed to dive and make a good save. Mekoa also came back to search for a goal but Murambadoro managed to hold on it in the 84th minute.

In the last two minutes of the match Mabaso supplied a cross and Mokate made no mistake and found the back of the net for Maritzburg United.

This saw AmaZulu being directly relegated from the Absa Premiership.

Ndulula let us down for poor finishing, a player of his calibre should have done better, but to blame him for AmaZulu relegation is too harsh and unfair, the management must take the responsibility. They kept Rosslee for too long and they failed to buy quality players in time.
