Bethlehem - Ten-man University of Pretoria held Free State Stars to a 1-1 draw in an Absa Premiership encounter at Goble Park on Saturday.

Denver Mukamba cancelled out Danny Venter's goal in a game blemished by missed chances.

Siyabonga Ngubane received his marching orders just after the hour mark after picking up his second yellow-card.

Perfect football conditions welcomed two teams who were eager to avoid defeat in a game that could prove pivotal in how things pan out at the wrong end of the table come the end of the season.

The first-half produced 11 shots on target with both teams eager to attack and take matters into their own hands.

Moeketsi Sekola should have put the hosts in front with two minutes on the clock. Katlego Mashego’s perfectly weighted pass put the recently capped Bafana Bafana attacking midfielder through on goal, but he could only succeed in firing straight at Washington Arubi, who was left with an easy save.

AmaTuks soon kicked into gear, with Geofrey Massa and Atusaye Nyondo forcing Glenn Verbauwhede into a succession of saves.

Tebogo Monyai then missed a gilt-edged chance, somehow directing his effort wide from close range before seeing Venter open the scoring at the other end.

Camaldine Abraw held off his marker before teeing up his Free State Stars colleague, whose powerful effort was tipped in the corner of the net by Washington Arubi.

AmaTuks found the equaliser on the cusp of half-time through Mukamba. The Zimbabwean surged into the penalty area before beating Verbauwhede from a tight angle to net his second goal in as many games.

The attacking intent continued in the second with both teams surging forward.

AmaTuks were dealt a major blow as Ngubane saw red following a second bookable offence.

However, this seemed to motivate the visitors who, would go closest to finding the winner. Geofrey Massa saw his tame effort canon off the post, before Partson Jaure rattled the other side of the woodwork in an exciting passage of play.

Ea Lla Koto dominated possession in the final exchanges, but were unable to grab all three points as they remain in 13th spot on the log standings.  AmaTuks drop to ninth following the stalemate.
