In February, MTN SA announced that it would not renew its sponsorship agreement with the Urban Warriors when the contract expired in June.

"As a normal business practice, MTN embarks on a review of its sponsorship portfolio.

"We take into consideration the alignment of each of the sponsored properties to business objectives and thus we not renewing the contract with Ajax," chief marketing officer at MTN Brian Gouldie said in a statement.

According to MTN Football, Ajax CEO Ari Efstathiou has been working hard behind the scenes to find the right sponsor for the Ikamva club.

"The philosophies of both companies are exceptionally similar as they are innovative, fresh in their marketing approach and focused towards the younger generation," said Efstathiou.

Huawei, a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications company, has now come on board with the club.

The Urban Warriors have the difficult task of taking on the high-flying Kaizer Chiefs at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, October 19.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
