Ajax stumble to big loss

Pietermaritzburg - Maritzburg United put a dent in the hopes of Absa Premiership title chasers Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday, with a convincing 3-0 win at the Harry Gwala Stadium, in Pietermaritzburg.

Ajax dropped two places on the log to fourth, while Maritzburg stayed above the relegation zone, rising one place to 13th.

The hosts struck early when Gert Schalkwyk connected with a corner taken by Kurt Lentjies to give Maritzburg the lead in the fifth minute.

Ajax goalkeeper Hans Vonk was the busiest player on the park in the first half.

At the break, Vonk did well to keep the deficit down to 1-0 as the United attack surged forward.

The hosts struck again shortly after the restart, when Lizo Mjempu handled the ball in the area and Rudolph Bester stretched the lead from the resulting penalty in the 50th minute.

Bester secured his brace, and United’s fourth win of the season, when he received a pass from Diyo Sibisi in the 77th minute and fired his shot home.

Thanks for the match report!I am a DSTV subscriber, who televise ALL 380 EPL games live. How many PSL games are televised live? Neither Santos v Vasco nor Ajax v Maritzburg was televised.Who are the idiots at Supersport responsible for this unacceptable state of affairs? On what basis do they decide which games to televise and why are some omitted? Are they aware that football is the most popular sport in our country?Poor, poor, poor job Supersport!

I can tell you now, this Ajax Club, is going nowhere. They need to work seriously on their attitude. All they are interested in is beating Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns! You watch them play against other teams, they are a shade of themselves. They have eliminated Chiefs out of several Cup games, denied Pirates the same glory-In fact they are only motivated against these clubs. Otherwise, they are hopeless!!! I honestly do not see them winning the league or any other major tittle for that matter! Two Cape Town PSL teams had to be compromised, for the sake of this Ajax club. We always thought that they were a sleeping giant and that one day they will arise, to show their mettle - But, what a shame! or should I say what a Spoiler?
