Ajax close in on Khenyeza

Johannesburg - Ajax Cape Town CEO George Comitis has revealed the club are close to re-signing Mabhuti Khenyeza from SuperSport United.

The striker has endured a frustrating time since joining Matsatsantsa from Mamelodi Sundowns six months ago, and looks unlikely to feature in Gavin Hunt's plans for the new season.

United are currently in Cape Town for part of their pre-season campaign, but it is expected Khenyeza will remain behind when the rest of the team return home to Pretoria.

"We are close to finalising a deal with Khenyeza but I cannot reveal the details as we are yet to meet," Comitis told The New Age.

Khenyeza formerly played for the Urban Warriors between 2008 and 2009, before joining Downs and then SuperSport.

"He is an incredible player who did so much for us and we hope to have him before the start of the season," Comitis added.

"Our strike force needs some revamping and I have no doubt that Khenyeza is the right player to assist when coming to goal scoring."
