Cape Town - Mpumalanga Black Aces and Jomo Cosmos will renew their rivalry when they meet for a Nedbank Cup last 16 clash at Mbombela Stadium.

The teams were regular combatants in the top flight of South African football from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, but of late their meetings have been scarcer.

In all, the teams have clashed in 25 top flight league and cup matches since 1985. Cosmos have 10 wins compared to seven for Aces, while eight matches have been drawn.

This cup clash will represent the teams’ first knockout meeting in two and a half decades: their only previous cup match was a semi-final of the 1990 Bob Save Super Bowl which Ezenkosi won 4-0.

AmaZayoni earned their place in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup thanks to a 2-1 home win over fellow PSL competitors Maritzburg United, while Cosmos beat lower league side Phiva Young Stars 2-1 away.

Aces come into the game having suffered a midweek defeat to Orlando Pirates in a league clash, though they did defeat Moroka Swallows just a few days prior. Cosmos, meanwhile, were beaten 3-2 on the weekend in an NFD match against Santos, following on from a loss to Golden Arrows.

Kick-off is at 15:00 on Saturday, March 21.
