Cape Town - Mpumalanga Black Aces and Maritzburg United will meet in the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup for a second successive year when they take to the Mbombela.

In the last 32 of the 2014 Nedbank Cup, Maritzburg claimed a 2-1 home win thanks to goals from Kurt Lentjies and Terrence Mandaza. Ofentse Nato scored Aces’ consolation goal in a match that went to extra time.

The Team of Choice went on to be eliminated in the very next round, suffering a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Platinum Stars.

That 2014 Nedbank Cup match is the only knockout encounter between Aces and Maritzburg, with the remainder of their eight games having been played in the league.

Overall, United have claimed five wins compared to two for AmaZayoni. There has been one draw and it was the most recent match between the two teams, a goalless stalemate at Harry Gwala Stadium on 13 September, 2014.

Aces will be looking to avoid a hat-trick of exits from cup competition at the first round this season, having lost 4-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in the quarterfinals of the MTN8 and 3-0 to Ajax Cape Town in the last 16 of the Telkom Knockout. Maritzburg, meanwhile, did not qualify for the MTN8 and were beaten 1-0 by Chiefs in the first round of the TKO.

Aces come into the match on the back of some indifferent form, having failed to win either of their two league matches against Platinum Stars (1-1 draw) or SuperSport United (1-0) loss since the PSL resumed after a lengthy midseason break.

The same can be said for United, who fellow 2-1 to Bidvest Wits in their opening game of 2015, before playing out a 1-1 draw away to Chippa United this past weekend.

Kick-off is at 19:30 on Wednesday, February 18.
