PSL suspend ID fraudster

Johannesburg - The Premier Soccer League's Disciplinary Committee have suspended Goodman Teboho Sauhatsi for 12 months after he used a fraudulent identity document to register in the PSL.

The Ea Lla Koto defender pleaded guilty to a charge of using false identity papers to register as a player in the Premiership, and has since been suspended for the remainder of the season, as well as being handed a R50 000 fine.

The charge relates to the player's use of an identity document that stated his name as Goodman Teboho Sauhatsi, as opposed to the Department of Home Affairs' records which states the players actual name is Goodman Musa Magagula.

That means Sauhatsi participated in Premiership matches as an unregistered player, breaking Rule 26.1 of the NSL Rules, which reads: "No player, whether amateur or professional, may play for any club falling under the jurisdiction of the League unless he has been registered by that club with the League in terms of these rules."

The DC have now called on the PSL to implement an identification verification system to avoid any similar cases in the future.
