Motaung case postponed

Nelspruit - The case against Kaizer Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung and two of his associates was postponed in the Nelspruit Magistrate's Court on Monday, according to an EWN report.

Motaung's company, Lefika Emerging Equity, was awarded the R1.2bn tender to consult on the building of the Mbombela 2010 Soccer World Cup stadium.

Business partner Herbert Theledi and former Lefika CEO Chris Grib also face charges of fraud and theft.

This follows the arrest of controversial former Mbombela municipal manager Jacob Dladla on Sunday.

The state asked that the case against the trio be postponed so all the accused can be prosecuted together.

Dladla was due to appear in the dock on Monday afternoon.

The state had previously alleged that the corruption surrounding the building of the soccer stadium is related to a series of political murders, including that of then municipal speaker Jimmy Mohlala.

Mohlala was killed a week before he was scheduled to testify against Dladla regarding his involvement in the 2010 stadium deal.

Outside court, a few dozen members of the South Africa Communist Party, many wearing t-shirts bearing Mohlala's face, demonstrated against the alleged corruption.

The case will resume on October 29.
