Cario - Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi says the club is ready to do battle with the best on the continent following the draw for the CAF Champions’ League group stage in Cairo
Soccer Laduma’s website is reporting that Lekgwathi feels the draw is a fair one, despite being pitted against seven-time African champions, Al Ahly of Egypt.
They will be joined by AC Leopards from the DRC and another Egyptian club, Zamalek, who have also been crowned African champions five times themselves.
“We are ready for this. We knew it wouldn't be an easy draw as all the eight teams in the Group Stages are good sides.
“We know how tough it is playing in Egypt and we have been to the DRC and we know what to expect.
“We are ready for the challenge awaiting us as we want to conquer Africa and make South Africa proud,” Lekgwathi said.
Pirates have already had firsthand experience of travelling to the DRC, following their triumphant tie against TP Mazembe last week.
The opening matches in the group phase of the CAF Champions League are set to take place during the weekend of July 19.
