Welbeck suffers horror injury in Sporting stalemate

Cape Town - Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck suffered a horror injury in a 0-0 draw against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, on Thursday evening with head coach Unai Emery saying the incident affected his players' mentality.

The England international went up for a header in the first-half and landed awkwardly before signalling to the bench for treatment.

Boss Unai Emery said: "It is the worst news tonight, this injury. We think it is serious. Every injury it is different and he broke something in the ankle."

Arsenal's initially shell-shocked players regained their composure but only enough to earn a point against stubborn Sporting.
