Cape Town - Neymar showed off a full array of tricks and a handshake fake-out joke as Paris Saint-Germain beat Rennes to reach the French League Cup final.
The Brazilian used his back to control a pass before flicking the ball over an opponent in a sublime piece of skill as PSG edged into the French League Cup final by beating Rennes 3-2 at Roazhon Park on Tuesday, despite seeing Kylian Mbappe sent off on his return from injury.
The 25-year-old attacker then pulled off a fake-out practical joke on a Rennes defender by offering to help him off the turf before pulling his outstretched and back at the last second.
The former Barcelona player later defended his actions with the joke causing controversy with many calling his antics disrespectful.
"I think that football is getting boring because we can't do anything," he said.
"Everything is contentious, at the end I made a joke by giving my hand to my opponent and then pulling it away. Everyone will make a scene saying nonsense.
"If I do this with my colleagues, friends why can't I with my opponent? We talked a lot during the game, in the end, I laughed. And I ended up playing with him on the pitch. It was a joke but they'll end up putting controversy on it.
"That's why I say football is kind of boring sometimes."
Mbappe saw red after another VAR decision for a terrible foul on Ismaila Sarr, but consolations from Diafra Sakho on his Rennes debut and Sanjin Prcic couldn't prevent PSG from continuing their bid for a fifth consecutive League Cup.
