Cape Town - Newly appointed Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has announced his backroom coaching team ahead of his maiden season as head coach in the Scottish top-flight.

In a club statement Gary McAllister, Michael Beale, Tom Culshaw, Jordan Milsom and Colin Stewart were named as Gerrard’s backroom team.

McAllister takes up the role of Assistant Manager, Beale becomes First Team Coach, Culshaw Technical Coach, and Milsom is Head of Performance. Stewart will continue in his role as Goalkeeping Coach.

The former Liverpool and England midfielder was confirmed as Rangers' new manager on a four-year deal on May 4.

Gerrard, who has previously only worked with Liverpool's Under-18s, faces a daunting task in trying to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have just sealed their seventh consecutive title.

Former Liverpool and Scottish midfielder McAllister played alongside Gerrard at Anfield as a player between 2000 and 2002 and served as first team coach under Brendan Rodgers.

Gerrard has also made his first signing as manger with will Liverpool youngster Ovie Ejaria completing a season-long loan. He has also signed a new contract at Anfield.
