SA-born defender signs with top-flight club

Cape Town - South African-born defender Keith Groeneveld has signed a three-year contract with top-flight Belgium club, Standard Liege.

The 16-year-old recently completed a five-day trial with the English Premier League club, Manchester United at Carrington training camp in April this year.

According to Soccer Laduma, Groeneveld scored on his debut for the Premier League outfit in a 8-0 thrashing against Burnley.

Born in Kimberely in 1999, Groeneveld left his native country at the age of five and has been calling Belgium his home for over 10 years.

He captains the Under-17s KV Mechelen Belgian side and it was previously confirmed that the youngster had been on trial at the Man United, while he was playing for Royal Antwerp.
