PSG's Emery thanks Wenger for support

Cape Town - Under-fire Paris Saint-Germain manager Unai Emery has taken to Twitter to thank Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for his support.

Since the French club crashed out of the Champions League last 16 with a 5-2 aggregate to Real Madrid, Emery's competency for the job has come into question.

Several potential replacements have been linked with PSG, including Mauricio Pochettino, Massimiliano Allegri and Antonio Conte.

Arsenal boss Wenger has though come out in support of Emery, telling beIN SPORTS: "Unai has already been dismissed by the media, but that is a decision that can only be taken by the club.

"From the outside looking in, I believe that Unai is very competent and that PSG's project must be based on stability if it is to move forward."

In response, Emery tweeted ahead of preparations for Saturday's Coupe de la Ligue final against Monaco in Bordeaux: "The focus of the entire PSG family is nowhere other than Bordeaux.

"I would also like to thank Arsene for his kind words - a true model in the world of football. Come on, Paris!"

Emery is in his second season at PSG and is on course to win a first Ligue 1 title. His side leads defending champions Monaco by 17 points at the summit of the table.
