Proteas legend Gibbs hails Ronaldo as 'simply the best'

Cape Town - South African cricket legend Herschelle Gibbs has hailed five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo as 'the best' after winning his first trophy with Juventus on Wednesday.

Ronaldo scored the only goal of the game with a clinical header in a 1-0 win over AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The 33-year-old - signed by the Italian giants last year from Real Madrid - headed in a 61st-minute winner.

The Portugal international has now won an astonishing 26 career trophies and has lifted a Super Cup with four different teams in four different countries, namely Portugal, England, Spain and Italy.

He has also scored a remarkable 19 goals in 30 finals appearances.

Gibbs took to Twitter to hail Ronaldo's ability to continue winning titles throughout his career that proves him to be the best.

The former Proteas batsman was also a gifted sportsman at school and represented SA Schools teams in cricket, rugby and soccer.
