Franceville - Despite giving up a comfortable lead in the closing stages of the game, Zimbabwe head coach Callisto Pasuwa believes that his side made a positive start to their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign following their 2-2 stalemate against Algeria.
The Warriors shared the spoils with the Dessert Foxes in a thrilling Group B encounter played at the Stade de Franceville on Sunday.
Riyaad Mahrez’s brace was enough to earn a point for the North Africans while the Warriors found the net courtesy of first half strikes from Nyasha Moshekwi and Kudakwashe Mahachi.
The Mutare-born tactician is confident that his troops will use their previous results as motivation heading into the next game against log leaders Senegal on Thursday.
“Getting a point against Algeria will motivate the players to do better in the next match,” Pasuwa told reporters in a post-match press conference.
“We sat too deep, though, we were catching them on the break. At this level, you have to be clinical in front of goal to win matches.
“It was only nine minutes to the end and they equalised. Our objective is to reach the second round and we will work towards that.”
