PAOK owner confronts referee carrying gun

Cape Town - In Greece a Super League clash between PAOK and AEK Athens had to be suspended after fans invaded the pitch with PAOK owner Ivan Savvidis confronting referee Georgios Kominis while carrying a gun.

According to reports the match between league leaders AEK and third-placed PAOK was forced to be suspended due to fans invading the pitch after PAOK had a late winner ruled out by the referee.

Savvidis was captured on camera storming the pitch and reportedly threatening the match officials with a gun attached to his waistband.

AEK manager Manolo Jimenez told Spanish radio that Savvidis showed his gun to the referee at the Stadio Toumbas and said: "your career as a referee has ended."

"We did not worry to begin with," Jimenez said. But afterwards when you see the gun you think 'if he was going to do something crazy he could have taken it out.

"To begin with we did not know he had the gun on his belt but that is also not the most important thing as maybe he is authorised to have it, what is not normal is for a president to go onto the pitch and threaten the referee."
