Mignolet: Cup can be catalyst for Klopp

Cape Town - Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet believes that winning Sunday's Capital One Cup final against Manchester City could be the catalyst to kick-start Jurgen Klopp's tenure at the club.

The German tactician replaced Brendan Rodgers as manager of the Reds in October, but has suffered the same inconsistency from his players as his predecessor.

Klopp now has a chance to win his first trophy with the Reds in his first five months at the club, a feat Rodgers failed to accomplish in three seasons at Anfield.

The Belgium international stressed the impact that winning on Sunday could have, "not only for the manager but for the club, for the fans, for everybody".

"I remember for Chelsea a few years back, it was the League Cup they won and after that they managed to win a lot of trophies," he told Sky Sports News. "It gives everybody a confidence boost when you win your first trophy for a long time."

The club's last trophy came in 2012 in the same competition, when former forward Kenny Dalglish was at the helm, and Mignolet believes that the current crop of players could do with a taste of silverware.

"For this young group of lads, I think it could be something that pushes us on to be even hungrier for trophies," he continued.

"Let's hope we can do that. It will be very difficult but we will try our best and hopefully we can get the trophy and get the first win."
