Cape Town - Five-time FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has done the unexpected and changed the colour of his hair ahead of Barcelona's pre-season tour.

The Argentine's wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, revealed to the world on her Instagram account Messi sporting the peroxide look.

Messi recently retired from international football following Argentina's defeat in the final of the Copa America against Chile.

The 29-year-old missed a penalty as the Chileans edged La Albiceleste 4-2 in a penalty shootout.

Messi is set to travel to England to face Liverpool with his Barcelona team-mates in the International Champions Cup on August 6 at Wembley Stadium.
