Martinez shocked by freak Hazard injury

Cape Town - Roberto Martinez says he was stunned to see Eden Hazard injure his ankle during Belgium training with "nobody near him when it happened".

The 26-year-old midfielder, who starred as Chelsea won the Premier League this season, was preparing for his country's friendly against the Czech Republic on Monday that they won 2-1, and a World Cup qualifier with Estonia on Friday.

Hazard is now expected to be out for three months following successful surgery on his ankle fracture.

Speaking after Monday's game, Martinez said: "I am very disappointed with Eden's injury.

"We all know he is a great player, but not everybody sees he is a great human being and leader for us as well.

"He was working hard to be ready for these two games and then this happens.

"There was nobody near him when it happened. He wanted to move from his left foot to his right foot as he lined up a shot and then it happened.

"We were all in shock and immediately realised it was serious.

"He is already back in London and we have been in touch after the game."

Hazard has taken to Twitter to share a post operation picture saying that he would soon return to action after undergoing rehabilitation on his injured ankle.
