League Cup Preview: Liverpool v Arsenal

Cape Town - Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to ring the changes for Wednesday night's clash with Arsenal in the fourth round of the English League Cup.

The Reds will be without Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri when they take on the Gunners.

Matip continues to struggle with a knee injury and will not return to action until he is fully fit, while the Merseysiders have confirmed that Shaqiri is unlikely to return before the next international break as he battles with a calf injury.

There is also a question mark over whether Mohamed Salah will play any part this season, and there is a good chance he will be rested.

The Egyptian ace picked up an ankle injury against Leicester a few weeks ago, and although he has returned to playing, he was substituted late on against Tottenham at the weekend after feeling the effects.

Meanwhile, Young goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who made his competitive senior debut in the game against MK Dons last month, is set to keep his place in the side.

As for Arsenal, they will welcome back Mesut Ozil as they look for a morale-boosting win.

Granit Xhaka caused controversy with his reaction to being substituted against Crystal Palace, and with pressure building on coach Emery, there is a dark cloud hanging over the club at the moment.

Xhaka has been left out of the squad that travelled to Merseyside as doubts surround whether he will keep hold of the captain's armband.

Like Klopp, Emery is also set to shuffle his pack for tonight's game with David Luiz, Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all set to be rested.

However, Ozil has been brought in from the cold and could make his first appearance since September.

Kick-off is at 21:30 (SA time).

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
