Koeman: Van Dijk is 'ready to play'

Cape Town - Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk should be ready to play against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, according to his Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman.

Van Dijk played 90 minutes against Germany last weekend as the Dutch won 3-0 in the Nations League, with the Reds defender scoring the opening goal, but he has returned to Merseyside early to focus on recovering from a bruised rib.

Netherlands will take on Belgium in an international friendly on Tuesday night.

Koeman said, as quoted by Sky Sports: "He's back in Liverpool but he is ready to play for next week. He's taken a rest.

"He spoke to the manager. The medical staff of the Dutch national team spoke to the medical staff of Liverpool and made the decision that he was playing only the Germany game and then after back to Liverpool.

"He is ready to play next weekend."

Van Dijk's return is a welcome boost for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who still has concerns regarding the fitness of James Milner, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane.
