Emery praises Smith Rowe's performance

Cape Town - Unai Emery was thrilled with Emile Smith Rowe's performance in Arsenal's 3-0 Europa League victory over Vorskla Poltava on Thursday.

The 18-year-old midfielder opened the scoring in Kiev on 10 minutes before a penalty from Aaron Ramsey.

Joseph Willock then added a third with 41 minutes played.

It was a comprehensive win for a young and much-changed Gunners side and after the match, Emery reserved special praise for Smith Rowe, who has now netted three goals in his last four appearances.

After the game, the manager said: "He’s taken confidence and responsibility and steps with us.

"Today his performance is very good. One good example for other young players. They have a lot of chances to help us today with this performance and also because we think they can help us.

"They need confidence playing matches, not only in training but also to take minutes in games like today.

"We have responsibility with the young players to show us if they can improve and stay with us."

The victory saw Arsenal claim first place in the group with a game to spare. They next face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.
