Bruno Cheyrou takes recruitment job at Lyon

Former Liverpool and France midfielder Bruno Cheyrou was named as Lyon's new head of recruitment on Monday, joining up with sporting director Juninho and adviser Gerard Houllier.

The 42-year-old Cheyrou was previously the sporting director for Paris Saint-Germain's women's team.

"His (scouting) networks are linked to his experience as an international player and as PSG women's sporting director," said Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.

"It is up to Juninho to define the exact nature of their collaboration."

Cheyrou was signed as a player by Houllier for Liverpool from Lille in 2002, but failed to live up to expectations after his then-manager dubbed him the "new (Zinedine) Zidane".

He also played for Marseille, Bordeaux and Rennes during his professional career and won three caps for France.

Lyon missed out on qualification for Europe next season after the Ligue 1 campaign was halted, with them sitting seventh in the table, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
