Allardyce gets Eriksson backing

Cape Town - Former England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson believes Sam Allardyce would be a good choice to lead the Three Lions if he is appointed.

Allardyce is widely expected to be unveiled as the new England head coach in the coming days and Eriksson feels he has the pedigree to succeed at international level.

"I think it is good. Sam's been in English football for a long time. He's always been doing very well," he told BBC Sport.

"If the FA want an Englishman he is one of several good names. I wish him the best of luck.

"I know he is very organised. He knows all the players and he wants the job.

"I know the fans and the FA are dreaming about reaching semi-finals and finals and winning a big tournament.

"Hopefully [winning a big tournament] will happen and we will see now with the new manager coming in," Allardyce concluded.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
