Cape Town - Thiago has seen his Bayern Munich career suffer another
agonising setback after the midfielder tore his knee ligament during
training.
The 23-year-old followed former Barcelona head coach Pep Guardiola to the Allianz Arena in July 2013 after spending eight years at the Camp Nou.
But Thiago missed the defending champions' run-in to the league title last season after sustaining knee ligament damage in the Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim in March.
The Spain international then missed his country's failed defence of their World Cup crown, having suffered a recurrence of the problem shortly before Vicente Del Bosque had named his 23-man squad for the Brazil spectacle.
He had only just returned to training with the club on Thursday, but a third injury of the same nature will rule him out of action for a lengthy period once again.
A disheartened Thiago told the club's official website: "What shall I say? I am deeply disappointed and desperate at the moment. Why always me? But I will not give up. I will fight. I will return. And will comeback for FC Bayern."
Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer revealed his shock at the news, but stressed that the Bavarians would continue to stand behind Thiago as he begins to long road to recovery.

Sammer said: "We are all shocked and saddened by his new injury. Thiago was so close to his comeback after all this time.
"But he knows Bayern are there for him. We will do everything so that he will get healthy again, and can win a lot of titles with us."
